great links! there really is so much creative goodness out there, no? this year's brooklyn academy of music's art auction has taken it up a notch and has some fine work up for grabs including a collage by our old acquaintance, marcel dzama. this piece by luisa caldwell, caught my eye with its bright background and clever use of fruit stickers. bling! o x your cal gal

Also, do you know of the brilliant D-Bros? Great product design...I would love to find more information on this book by member Yayako Uchida.

sad i am leaving new york today. went to the whitney yesterday to check out the biennial and only wish i could of seen some of this work you posted as most of what was there looked like 'art school crap'. i then strolled through central park with c to find some peace of mind. it was the perfect remedy. x j
p.s. cannot believed it snowed there yesterday...will send some sun from calif.

Been meditating on this drawing by Brazilian artist Adalgisa Campos.
Her work is so fine and clear, and I love that it's not about any kind of minimalism, but uses its own austerity to mask an obsession with innumerable calculations. Her practice is an obsessive record of a multitude of measurements, like the floor plans of every room she's ever been in, or how many ways there are to document the layout of a piece of graph paper. I can't find much on her online, except on this post on Sydney's blog, about half way down the page.
It snowed yesterday, and I've had quite enough. Maybe we should meet somewhere closer to the equator?

HAPPY SPRING to you! no daffodils or tulips here, instead this plant i bought at a cute garden store in williamsburg. the wee gold bulbs bloom tiny flowers. forgot the type of plant it is, but i believe it's part of the chrysanthemum family. x miss j

WEIRD!! i was just talking ramen yesterday with some friends and of course momofuku came into the conversation as david chang does a ramen made with berkshire pork. it's quite delicious, but i just have a hard time paying $14 for a bowl of ramen. my favourite ramen spot here in nyc is right around the corner from there and is called rai rai ken. simple, yummy and cheap. we can test out both when you are here. also, found you a ny travel tip guide and the other two i picked up in a thrift store in capetown just for their covers. definitely going to try this miso chicken recipe ...where did you get your burdock root and mustard greens? chinatown? o x j

I wish I had taken my own picture of David Chang's clay-pot miso chicken before we devoured it, but it was too good to wait. A perfect braise for a rainy day. From my well worn copy of Gourmet's October 2007 issue.
And you are seriously tempting me, drawing me to your fine city. There are far too many temptations there for me to even begin to fathom... hmmmm.
Don't wash away.
sahara of the dessert..
