go canucks go

dear sweet meat

i always thought a good plate of chinese bbq pork was like candy for carnivores, so will have to try your "meat candy."
and the banksy film, butterfly undies, and beetroot cupcakes.
i've been kind of awol this week:
it's been a long one in the single parent kind of way.
meaning exhausting.

thank goodness there is a dance party and some playoff hockey in my future.
i too am considering repainting my house. canucks circa 1982, of course. (!)

lakers fan

you know you're a laker's fan when you have to paint your house with the team colors.
saw it as i was en route to a dinner where our fabulous hostess made this yumminess.
we have already nicknamed the dish 'meat candy'.
you must give it a try.

it's a beautiful friday morning down here and i hope you have some lovely plans for the weekend.

thinking of you,

would definitely recommend you see the banksy film if you can.
he's one clever guy as evident in his work shown here.
i especially like the first and last one that he did on israel's controversial west bank barrier.
more of his work here.

how's the new do? feeling a little naked?

the apartment

that sure is a change.
and what a great photo of your lovely locks.

can't wait to see!

i've been getting 'you look like shirley maclaine in the apt' comments
a lot lately + thinking it might be due to my current short hairstyle with bangs.
i'm not sure i agree but i do love this movie + the clever use of the tennis racket.

going to see the banksy film later today.
will report back.

sweet savoury tooth

i never had much of a sweet tooth or had any desire to be a baker
but i think this deliciously designed website might change that.
created by ming thompson, a harvard grad, this one definitely needs to be bookmarked.

yum again.

i'm cleaning up my desktop on my computer and came across these photos that i have always meant to post but never got around to it so here goes...
  • a double rainbow i shot outside my apt. one rainy / sunny day here in LA - 2 months ago
  • that dress from one of your older posts that i can't get out of my head
  • the frozen river at sun valley just outside A + T's place on my first trip there dec. 07
stock pot turned into a big batch of lentil spinach soup that i am eating as i write you and really wishing we were having legendary noodles together for lunch today.

stock pot

lady s,

it's chilly here today and i've got a pot of stock on for some homemade soup as i am need of some comfort food after that coachella craziness.
it was nuts!
my favourites were charlotte gainsbourg, phoenix, thom yorke, and gorillaz.
some fine music there all on the last day.
must say i was a bit disappointed when sly + the family stone failed to show up for their scheduled appearance.
nothing like a little chickpea and chard dish to help cheer me up though.
am going to make tomorrow for lunch. yum is right.

miss you lovely.

beans 'n' greens

made this again last night -
it looks a bit sloppy here, but the alchemy that happens when you bake the chick peas is genius. what you don't see is the georgian "it's an emotional process" baguette, and the poached egg slipped on top of the whole thing.
(thanks t!)

would love to see you hitting the farmer's market with a cardin quilted/trapunto cape-meets-collar. it would certainly guarantee the best tomatoes (or swiss chard, if you are so inclined)...

pierre cardin

a disgusting habit indeed which i am attempting to avoid at all costs!
unless of course my new love interest is capable of making that divine potato creation you feature here.
"you say potato and i say potahtoe..."

and your home looks so beautiful...
i can't wait to come visit.

saw this pierre number the other day and thought about how i need to start thinking outside the box with my wardrobe as i've become quite boring.
maybe it's this california sunshine everyday which means t-shirts, jeans, flip flops.

i remember some crazy outfits i used to sport back in the day while listening to this.
sad about mr. mclaren ...another visionary gone.

joining 'camp canada' out at coachella this weekend... will report back next week.
wish me luck as i'm not big on crowds.

disgusting habits

i just watched this
after a night of kinpira and sausages at pings.

all i can think about is the warmth of the sun on bare arms.

darlingest darling

sunshine and flowers:
bought ranunculus and narcissi from the market,
and hung these thrifted spring flower paintings.
(it's all a bit too pretty though -
i need to switch the art back or something)

potato with caramelized onions on jim lahey's crust.
cooked on a pizza stone, the crust was thin and crispy.
the mushroom half was even better.

and i have blisters, and it's been raining.
so they wait in my closet for knee high argyle socks.
(probably not the socks, just some sunshine...)

art 4 u

thought these works might be of interest to you
hair art and catherine opie's girlfriends featured in today's artkrush email.

is there sunshine and flowers up north?
what will you make for supper?
how are the new shoes?
do share.

hockey with my peeps

darling ess,

i love ray johnson and still remember it was you that turned me onto this film about him.
i'll try to channel my inner ray and get it together to send you some mail art + treats soon.

it's just that life has been so busy/hectic lately...
although i did make time go see the canucks get slaughtered by the LA kings with fellow transplanted canadians.
it was very sad indeed.

i also found time to attend an easter dinner at a friends and learned about 'peeps' which are those marshmallow easter treats, here shown in the package and adorning cupcakes.
apparently these little critters are fairly common down here so i got funny looks when i said that i didn't know what a 'peep' was but hey, i'm from canada and that's where my peeps are.

missing you.

ray johnson

lovely summer things,
coming not soon enough!

until then, thinking of ray johnson and his mail art. do you know him? (at the edges, he has always reminded me a little of your own practice.) (i'll post more images if you want to see more.)

and hoping you and yours are well and safe after a ground shaking afternoon.

love always
