chillin' poolside

lady ess,

yes. definitely need to do our version of 'contempt' up at gambier this summer.
bardot's looking pretty hot sunbathing on the roof no?
but not quite as hot as us three chillin' poolside in indian wells.
(we were at rick + donna's place relaxing before heading to more coachella craziness...note our matching wristbands)

+ i plan on doing some more of this lazin' by the pool thing over this holiday weekend with the company of this book that i cannot put down.

have a wonderful weekend doll!

contempt

jane hardly plain

i think when you come back to gambier, in the summer, we need to film a remake of contempt.

that view!

those stairs!

may take more than a day up there, but the shots all just fall into place, and the casting is a piece of cake! missing you, and i too am already plotting our next visit...

ps inspiration via even cleveland.

back in LA

darlingess,

there never seems to be enough days when i come up for a visit
but i am so thankful for the ones i have filled with loving friends, family and amazing food.
it does not get any better than that
+ i am so happy i was able to share 3 of those with you.

i think you should come for a little visit here for your birthday
i'll start the rhubarb vodka right away to have it ready.

rhubarb vodka

jd

i so enjoyed the last of the tipple the other night, and thought i should share the recipe so we can stock up for next year:
rhubarb vodka

600 g fresh rhubarb, chopped
300 g sugar
1 litre vodka

put everything into a big jar. shake well. slip into a dark cupboard, shaking once a week. after six weeks, strain.

i know, super complicated. but i think we can handle it.
i like it straight up, but soda and lime work too.

more beans 'n' greens

dearest

often when i am alone i eat rather badly
(like you, i love best to cook for others),
but tonight i was apparently somewhat inspired,
although i must say the beans and greens were the best thing on the plate
(this a speedy version made with cannellini beans and sauteed chard).

followed by a dilly bar.
(i am a recent convert).

looking forward to noodles and dumplings and lots of deliciousness in my future.

ess

ps laughed 'til i cried watching those two and their tartare. love them both too much.

mouse

ess,

mouse likes to sit here in the bathroom sink off the kitchen and watch me as i cook. (love my little brooklyn street cat)
speaking of cooking, i'm going to take a soba workshop in june which is exciting
+ i wish you could join.

last night had dinner with an old acquaintance from vancouver and caught up over a delicious monday night supper. quite a deal for $15 and just around the corner from me.

it's super windy here this morning and i'm hoping a palm tree doesn't blow over on my apt.
how's things up there? i hear sunny.
i best start looking at flights.

bowl food

darlingess,

this year the monk will be 23. crazy!
seems impossible that all these years have passed by
and yes, you must be exhausted as i remember those years of single parenting all too well.
i'm happy to hear that you are at least getting in some quality hockey time complete with burgers and even a dance party in your future.
yay! right there with you in spirit girlfriend.

lately, i've been finding one of the hardest things about being single is what to eat.?
as much as i love eating out i've been doing it more often than usual so have been trying to dial it back and have been making more of my 'bowl food' this past week which i eat out of my idea of a perfectly shaped bowl with my favourite spoon.

'bowls' from top to bottom -

  • roasted salmon on sesame noodles w/ brocollini
  • dal makhani with quinoa, brocollini, + yogurt mix (yogurt, cukes, lemon juice +zest, garlic, cilantro, s + p, cumin)
  • stir fried salmon, egg, gr. onions, brocollini over jasmine rice sprinkled with soya sauce + seaweed flakes.
  • sag paneer, fried rice with leeks, tomatoes, garlic, + ginger , yogurt mix
  • rice cooked in homemade chicken stock then added cut up chicken, spinach + egg, drizzled with soy sauce, sesame oil, gr. onions, seaweed + gomashiro.
one of my meals throughout the day usually includes one of these and although comforting, it's still kind of lonely cooking only for me.
had friends over for dinner the other night and must try to do that more often.
wish you could come for dinner.

go canucks go!

skulls

j-bird

how old is the shrub turning this year?
just saw these earrings on erie basin, and they immediately reminded me of this ring
(carved lava (!) instead of moose ivory though).

in other news, i ate the most divine hamburger the other night. that's right, the night the canucks TROUNCED chicago. i don't mean to rub it in or anything. i just know you and i are on the same level when it comes to chuck, and i don't mean chuck bass.
