in a while crocodile

j

remember the hot and sour soup from the phnom penh? i dream of that soup.
especially tonight, when it is raining, and we are all fighting colds, and i'd rather be lying on a beach somewhere...

instead, let's talk about this little crocodile number from cartier.
when mexican actress maria felix commissioned the piece, she delivered a bowl of live alligators to the cartier workshop in paris as inspiration.
(her snake necklace in this video is a decent substitute if crocs don't work for you...)

i may be a bit absentee in the next while. flattened by deadlines, but i will do my best.

love

soup's on

happy first day of fall my essness!
have you got on a fabulous cape and some great boots on as you walk through the changing leaves?
it was feeling like fall here all week which lead to some soup adventures but now it is back to blue skies + sunshine.
when i want a convenient and delicious soup hit, i head to a place near me in atwater village called viet. it's a fresher version of your traditional pho soup and hits the spot everytime.
the top bowl is a vegetarian pho with tofu and shitakes in a lemongrass broth.
the next is a ginger fish noodle soup finished with fried onion bits + bean sprouts.
both are so full of flavour you won't even miss the beef.

and then there is the pot of soup under construction on my stove top.
the chicken stock is made but not sure which direction to go with the soup.
any suggestions? feeling like something outside the chicken noodle box.

napa

darling ess,

just coming out of my napa coma and thinking that a pair of those shoes you posted might make rehab much more glamourous + fun.

from the top -
our cottage at the carneros inn
pasta followed by shortribs at bottega ( so much more yumminess but only sharing these)
the bakery
the vines
and a favourite wine of the weekend.

heading back to the drawing board now but with a copy of your man's book.

the opening

darling,

thank you so much for the lovely flowers.
the opening was such a good time and we all wished you were there.
here's one wall of drawings and my favourite photo of the night with the shrub and her friend NK who happens to own this lovely little vintage shop right down the street from me.
AV and i are having such a nice time and have added a delicious new pinot to our repetoire.
Feeling it's the prelude to our Napa trip.

sending sunshine,

corinne day

j

when these lovely, even dorky photographs of kate moss first appeared, they made me reconsider fashion, or perhaps finally consider is a more apt description. taken by the photographer corinne day in 1990, when moss was just fifteen, they were kind of revolutionary.

just look at those freckles!

day died of a brain tumour last week, at just 48.
but she started something, that maybe got lost somewhere along the way but i love all the same.

fine stitchery

doll,

went by the gallery yesterday and when i saw these immediately thought of the conversation with you and TR on meeting guys while you sit in the bar talking about craft projects.
smiled when i saw these by artist lisa borgnes and thought you would like.
they are quite large as well 54" x 44" and are embroidered cotton thread on burlap.

good double rainbow clip ... makes me yearn for you and the gals and our shenanigans in the woods.

love you,
