how gorgeous is isabella rossellini? in fact, how amazingly beautiful are all of these women of "a certain age."
ha. i am older than AT LEAST guinevere van seenus, but if this is how it is then yes please.
see the june italian vogue for details.

PS the light reminds me of this old video.
oh george.

apologies, got sidetracked with noodles, dumplings and your lovely face...
not to mention CA'S birthday was divine!

as you know, a  trip to marfa would not be complete without a trip to the Prada store.
the monk summed it up nicely here.

i can't wait until we go back there together. magic.

see you in nyc very soon....

marfa part 3

east van,

saturday went something like this -

  • huevos rancheros from marfa burrito - a small little house/cafe run by 2 mexican women that don't speak any english... delicious!
  • the reception area and ceremony setting outside finished nicely with some confetti system  garlands.
SLS married the lovely couple with the most beautiful, heartfelt ceremony... cocktails and appetizers were up next followed by a delicious buffet dinner ( some crazy good fried chicken) and of course more drinking + dancing until the wee hours... definitely one of the best weddings i have been to.

have just arrived in time to dumpling with you in the rain when you come up to breathe.

marfa part 2

from above
  • graffiti spotted on a wall in town
  • the best gin cocktail i've tasted in a while ... the bartender gave me the recipe so i shall make for you
  • our hip motel all lit up at night
spent the next day at the Judd foundation...
the many buildings in town where Donald Judd kept his work, his collection of other artists and slept.
(there is a bed in every space)
no photos were allowed of course but all spaces were gorgeous , minimalist and not a hair out of place... talk about neat freak.
later toured 'the Block' , his compound and residence, where 2 libraries housed an extensive book collection, another minimalist 'studio' with his earlier works and then his living residence where we could only peek through the windows as no one is allowed in.

oh Donald... you were a little cray cray.

marfa part 1

needless to to say our trip to marfa was quite the adventure!

we started in el paso for lunch at kiki's where we tried the house specialty 'machaca'...yum!

1st photo - the road into marfa - we took hwy 17 as advised by JB and had a gorgeous ride in.

arrived just in time for a delicious marg and nibble at maia's before heading off to catch feist performing in a tiny theater... she was amazing!
when the concert ended we had a quick drink at padre's then road our bicycles around marfa under the starry texas sky... magical!

the next day we hit the chinati foundation for a whole lot of judd and flavin.
2nd photo is the building that houses judd's 100 milled aluminum boxes and then in the 3rd some flavin for you.
(photos weren't actually allowed so take a look a chinati site to get a better idea)

and yes, there is more to come...

liberty + boogie + turban + chaise

first, a liberty dunk with a hidden wedge.
that's all i'm gonna say.

second, check out the moooooooooooves. it's how i dance in my imagination. or maybe i actually do, but i am the only one doing it so it's not so effective (i too would get stuck doing the splits).

third, i always love a turban. always.

and last, the sick pink velvet chaise upon which i will recline after dancing all night in my secret sneaker wedges and getting stuck doing the splits. in my turban.

how about you?

i was looking for quince blossoms tonight for a little project i'm working on, when i discovered march is national noodle month! did you know this???
i will for certain be heading to kintaro (care to join p?), followed by lin's and my beloved bowl of noodles with pork and pickled greens (e?).
(and here's where i found the noodle month tip. their list of spots in la includes din tai fung and a peruvian place i'd be curious to try.)
ps still owe you that h&m post. i'll get there...

caftan crazy

i pinned the top image from joanna's pinterest a while ago and have been obsessing over the colours, volume, and length since then.
it kind of clicked for me while rifling through the racks at one of our favourite thrift-spots a few weeks ago, when i found the bottom dress, in full length muumuu (not miu miu) style. one go with the scissors and i had my own version (plus the necklace (awesome)) for a grand total of $9.98.

as for marni, i have a tale to tell.
next post, i promise.

missing you,

marni at H+M

i missed out on this yesterday as the idea of waiting in a line for anything is not my cup of tea unless of course you were there to keep me company...
a crying shame really because these pieces were made for us.

miss you
kiss you

think pink

inspired by your bright pink heart card, today is pink day and i will be thinking of you...

here are 2 more reasons why you should be living here...
where else can you walk in to your local drugstore and pick up this snappy 4 pack of white zin?
(note unbreakable bottles not heart)
or pull up beside a brand new hot pink bentley at a red light?
(my photo does not do it justice!!)

i'm thinking *beetroot risotto tonight but would much rather be hitting a cocktail party with you and our man, karl.

hmmmm. target you say? too bad up north we need to wait until 2013 for that one.

it was -7 celsius here this morning.
that's cold, actually. perfect opportunity to wear fur hats and boots and parkas with pompoms and all the other things that hide in the back of my closet until the mercury drops.

i love it for a day or too, but by day three those california palm trees and yacht rock are calling me...

year of the dragon

pretty cute + clever wall painting...
i think we need to do a little street art next time i am up.

the year of the dragon approaches and i am thinking of making this dish for new year's eve dinner served with some fluffy rice and sauteed bok choy.
this recipe made me think of the david chang chicken dish you shared with me a while back which also could be quite delicious.

it is also a good time to give your house a thorough cleaning (wash/sweep out the bad luck) and get a haircut which i am finally going to do.
more on chinese new year's here.

and speaking of dragons, i think it's time to watch this again...
maybe after the chicken dinner?

miss you.
